Skew Bridge repair to begin soon

A project to repair a wall that retains a section of the main Sandown to Shanklin road near Skew Bridge is to begin next week (Monday Oct 17).

The project, to be carried out by Island Roads on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, is scheduled to last ten weeks. It follows a previous incident when a vehicle collided with the wall causing damage to the structure.

During work it will be necessary to close a lane to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians. This will mean that temporary traffic signals will be in operation at this location for the duration of the work.

Senior Project manager Jason Boulter said: “The work is necessary to ensure the integrity of what is an important part of the strategic road network, While we have scheduled the work for outside of the holiday season, the temporary traffic lights will inevitably have an impact on some road journeys so we thank motorists in advance for their understanding.”
