Highway Improvements at Church Litten

The road surface in Church Litten, Newport, is to be improved over nine days of work starting on Tuesday 7th May, 2024.

Although the northern end of Church Litten will be closed as a through route during parts of the work, Island Roads has phased the project to ensure access to Litten Park (Morrisons store and petrol station, and Marks and Spencer) will be maintained at all times.

Pedestrian and emergency service vehicle access will also be maintained and the road will be opened at weekends if work progress allows, and it is safe to do so.

In Phase 1 of the work, Church Litten will remain open from Medina Avenue to South Street. During this phase, from Medina Avenue junction for approximately 100 metres, only the right hand lane (access to Litten Park) will be open.  Once drivers are past this point all lanes will become available.

During Phase 2, Church Litten will be closed as a through route between Litten Park entrance and South Street, although access to Litten Park will remain open.

During both phases, if approaching Church Litten from the west along Medina Avenue, vehicles must go straight ahead, go round St George’s Roundabout and then turn right into Church Litten.

The works will take place during the day between 7.30am and 5pm.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: “We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making.

“We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in enabling us to complete these works.”
