UPDATE: Works postponed
After careful consideration, works that were due to start at Lake Hill and Broadway, Sandown next week have been postponed due to the current weather being experienced as well as the predicted weather forecast.
The decision has been taken in order to prevent delays to work on site which would have potentially had a corresponding impact on local residents should the work period need to be extended.
An Island Roads spokesperson said: “The nature of the work required on site requires deep excavations which will rapidly fill with water in periods of heavy rain. This naturally causes a delay to work on site and we are anxious not to unnecessarily prolong our work in what is a busy, well used area.
The works will be postponed to a future date when we can be more certain of a good weather window in which to work and we will let residents know as soon as that timeframe has been confirmed.”
A busy section of highway in Lake and Sandown is to be upgraded as part of Island Roads’ busy programme of out-of-season highway improvement work.
Sections of Lake Hill and Broadway in Sandown are both due to be upgraded this month.
At each location, excavations are required to address the underlying ground conditions that have caused the highway to deteriorate in some areas. In some cases these excavations may be deep.
Though this means the sites will be closed as through roads for the duration of the work period, the need for future maintenance should be reduced.
Lake Hill and Broadway are due to be improved between Brownlow Road and The Heights in work scheduled to begin week commencing February 19 and last five working days.
Alternative routes via Perowne Way, The Fairway and Avenue Road will be signposted during the closure and traffic management arrangements will be monitored during the works to help minimise disruption for motorists.
An Island Roads spokesman said: “We are continuing to undertake extensive work at this time of year, enabling us to maintain the network whilst minimising disruption to the strategic network during the summer months.
“We do recognise that, as important as it is, work of this nature does inevitably cause some disruption, so we would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience.”
