Residents and business are reminded that Island Roads’ staff will be out and about next week to explain more about the forthcoming work to resurface Newport’s Coppins Bridge.

The resurfacing scheme is scheduled to begin on September 14 and last nine nights. Due to the central location and volume of traffic using Coppins Bridge, the work will start at the later time of 10pm each night and finish daily at 6am.

The works, that also include the resurfacing of Snooks Hill, will impact on access to and from Upper Coppins Bridge Car park which will be closed while resurfacing work is under way. It will be open outside of resurfacing work times.

To explain this and other aspects of the project, Island Roads will hold an information session in Upper Coppins Bridge car park on September 1 from 11.30am to 2pm and at the car park by County Hall between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

Residents and businesses are welcome to drop by to discuss the scheme.

Island Roads Communications officer Helen Williams said: “Our recent work in nearby South Street has shown we are able to keep disruption to a minimum when working in town centre locations.

“The Coppins Bridge project will however bring with it certain challenges due to its location and we wish to ensure residents and businesses understand the work programme and how it may affect them.

“We really would urge anyone who is likely to be affected by this scheme to come along and find out more about the project at the forthcoming drop-in sessions we are holding.”
