Island Roads is to resurface the entire length of Briddlesford Road, on the outskirts of Newport, in August.

The work to improve the two-mile stretch between the Woodman’s Roundabout and the Robin Hill Roundabout will be carried out at night to minimise disruption. The work will be between the hours of 8.30pm – which is a later than usual start time to allow access to the Lynbottom Household Waste Recycling Centre – and 6am. The project is scheduled to begin on August 3 and will last up to 12 nights. There will be no work over the weekends.

In order to carry out work as quickly and as safety as possible a road closure will be put in place during work periods. Traffic will be diverted via Long Lane, Staplers Road and Whiterails Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Local businesses including Briddlesford Farm, Westridge Waste, the Hare and Hounds pub and Robin Hill as well as Amey who run the Lynnbottom Household Waste Recycling Centre on behalf of the IW Council have all been contacted in advance by Island Roads.

Keith Gourlay, Island Roads construction manager, said: “This is a well-used road serving local amenities, businesses and tourist attractions so we are undertaking this work at night in order to minimise the impact on these.”
