Island Roads has stepped in to ensure users of the restored Sandown Town Hall start off on the right lines.
The once derelict former municipal Grade II Listed building has recently been brought back into use by an IW Council-led project with Community Action Isle of Wight delivering the Bay Youth Project from part of the building.
But one final element was needed – new lines to denote car parking bays. As the available conversion budget was committed, the centre asked Island Roads for help under the company’s volunteering scheme.
Island Roads was happy to help and with its lining contractor WJ, attended the Grafton Street site to mark out ten bays including two reserved for disabled users.
Island Roads has previously helped the centre by providing a £14,000 grant through its Isle of Wight Foundation. The donation has helped create a grassroots music/media project within the renovated building which is run through LINK, a new youth centre run by the Bay Youth Project which supports young people aged between 10 and 18.
“As we become busier, the safety of people using the centre is very important. Designated bays will ensure controlled and safe parking, and that we maximise the amount of spaces available to us,” said Emma Moul, LINK Manager.
“Island Roads has already been so generous to us through the IW Foundation grant but its lovely they are also prepared to give their time and expertise to the project as well. We are very thankful for their support”.
Spencer Jarman, Island Roads Design and Lining Supervisor led the line painting team and designed the layout of the bays to ensure maximum safety and best use of space.
He said: “The new youth centre is a fantastic project that will provide creative opportunities to many young people in the Bay area – we are delighted to support them.”
