Work to install new post and rail fencing on The Causeway at Freshwater is to begin next month.
The project by Island Roads will take approximately three weeks and will mean the current pedestrian safety restraints on either side of the road will be replaced ‘like for like’ with oak posts and railings.
The Causeway will be closed to vehicles during the project but pedestrian access will be retained.
The work can begin now that discussions with the IW Council over a suitable form of replacement restraint have concluded and also as the various ecological permissions required to progress works in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty have now been received.
“This is both a popular and environmentally-sensitive site and we needed to ensure the new post and rail fencing was both in keeping with the surroundings and also that the necessary environmental permissions were in place,” said Island Roads construction manager Keith Gourlay.
“I am pleased to say this process has been completed and we are looking forward to completing the work which will mean the temporary barriers can be removed.”
