A project to resurface the Main Road through Chillerton is progressing well.
A project to resurface the Main Road through Chillerton on the Isle of Wight is progressing well thanks to work by Island Roads. The 2km section between Highwood Lane and Chillerton Barns is being improved in a project that began recently and is expected to be completed by mid-June.
Work is being undertaken during the day meaning the road is closed as a through road between 6.30am and 6pm. There will be no work at weekends.
Residents have received letters explaining how the work will be completed in three phases to reduce disruption and also giving details of how and when they can access their properties when the section outside their homes is being improved.
Though a proportion of the project is being undertaken during the half-term holiday, Island Roads has also made arrangements with Chillerton and Rookley Primary School, so the school bus will still be able to drop off and collect children. Besides the school, Island Roads has also liaised with Chillerton Parish Council, Southern Vectis and local IW Council member Cllr Steve Hastings to inform the community and to reduce disruption.
Island Roads construction manager Keith Gourlay said: “Although the works are being phased to enable residents to maintain access to their properties most of the time, it is inevitable that a major scheme to improve a main road through a village will cause some short-term, localised inconvenience.
“We would like to thank the local community in advance for their understanding and apologise for any inconvenience the works might cause.”
