“I studied geology at university and I’ve been working as a Geotechnical Engineer now for 14 years. Geotechnical engineering relies a lot on detailed knowledge of ground conditions and how the ground behaves so a knowledge of geology is essential.  I have a very varied role at Island Roads, including everything from project management to on-site testing of ground conditions.

I’ve always liked the outdoors and although there is plenty of office work to do, I still spend plenty of time out on site which I really enjoy.

With engineering being such a vast sector there can be opportunities to change tack and do something different throughout your career so I’d recommend it as a career choice.”
