Island Roads joins RSPCA volunteering day

Island Roads staff joined scores of volunteers from the Island’s business community to lend a hand at the RSPCA’s Island Animal Centre near Godshill.

A team of seven Island Roads staff from across the business performed numerous maintenance tasks to improve the centre as part of its annual Corporate Volunteer Day.

The Island Roads team took part in the day’s activities through its volunteer programme, which encourages staff to take two days’ unpaid leave each year to support good causes and charities on the Island.

Tasks included grounds clearance, painting a boundary fence and refurbishing the centre’s rabbit sanctuary. After completing their tasks, all volunteers took the chance to meet some of the centre’s residents.

Rachel Mills, one of the Island Roads volunteers, said: “It was a really rewarding day. It was great to do our bit to help the centre out and it was also really good to meet volunteers from the other organisations who supported the day.

“And of course, it was also really special to meet some of the RSPCA’s animal residents who are looking for new homes.”

Steve Backhouse, Branch Director for RSPCA Isle of Wight, said: “ “We’re incredibly grateful for the support given from Island Roads and other local businesses.

“As an independent island-based charity, over 90% of our income must be raised locally, so support from our local community makes a huge difference to the vulnerable animals in our care.”

The Island Roads team were Maddy Clewett, Rachel Mills, Samantha O’Rourke, Prem Lis, David Gray, Steve Probert and Rio Barratt.
