Island Roads says thanks as safety work due to complete on Friday

The project to replace 85 metres of safety fencing on St George’s Way, Newport, is due to complete on schedule tomorrow (Friday).

During the four-week scheme, Island Roads has strengthened the brick supports and installed new concrete posts to support the new timber fence. These measures will make the new fence stronger, reducing the likelihood of future maintenance.

During the project, one lane of St George’s Way has been closed to accommodate scaffolding. This scaffolding is due to be removed on Friday.

Project manager George Lovelock, said: “The project was a lot larger than simply replacing fence panels. We have made the entire structure stronger which should make it safer and more robust for many years to come.”

“We’d like to thank the travelling public and residents for their support and understanding during the project. The lane closure on St George’s Way was necessary because it helped us complete the work safely and on time and hopefully it didn’t cause inconvenience to motorists.”
