An Island-based animal charity that helps pets and wildlife has been chosen as Island Roads’ staff Charity of the Year.
Newport-based Friends of the Animals (FOTA) popped in to Island Roads’ HQ last week (20th) to introduce Lolly, one of their rescue dogs, bring along a cake and thanking the company’s staff charity committee for choosing them.
Friends of the Animals was set up by Helen Sinclair 36 years ago and every year provides help with spaying and neutering, rehoming, vet bills, wildlife rescue and Foodbank support for Islanders.
Last year they provided support costing almost £500,000 and raise money through their five charity shops on the Island and in Portsmouth, plus street collections and in-store collections.
Lacie Scott-Jackson, FOTA office manager, said: “To have a big company like Island Roads on board is huge for us. We haven’t had a big company such as this support us in this way before.
“Last year was our biggest year so we need to keep on bringing in the money to enable us to do what we do.”
Island Roads’ staff charity committee supports an Island charity each year, with the Wight Brainy Bunch (2025) and Hampshire and IW Air Ambulance (2024) among the other good causes to benefit.
India Dale, charity committee member, said: “There are a lot of animal lovers here at Island Roads and more than half of the votes for charity of the year went to FOTA this year.”
Her charity committee colleague Sarah Ledger said the employees would support FOTA with various events including sweepstakes on big sporting events, a Bake Off and a planned sponsored walk.
