Main road through Wroxall to reopen for Christmas period

Work to rebuild and resurface the main road through Wroxall is slightly ahead of schedule.

As the project is now at roughly the halfway stage in terms of total area improved, the road will re-open on the evening of Tuesday 9 December as not to affect access to Ventnor during the Christmas and New Year period which is important to the town’s economy.

This planned pause will also give some respite to Wroxall residents who have lived with the work which has included an additional night-time shift.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: “I am pleased to say we have made good progress despite the weather and that is due in no small measure to the support and co-operation of road users and the Wroxall community during work.

“We have now reached a stage where it is sensible to pause work and re-open the road at what is an important time for Ventnor. The last thing we want to do is begin a new section and then not be able to complete it because of bad weather.”

Work will resume on January 5th (weather permitting) from which point the main access out of Wroxall will be via Ventnor so residents are reminded that additional time should be allowed for many journeys.

Island Roads will continue to keep residents informed of the project’s progress via email updates, the Island Roads website and local media.
