National Careers Week – Young people encouraged to consider highway career options

Social media post showing Joe Robinson and a quote encouraging other young people to consider highway careers as part of National Careers Week

As part of National Careers Week, Joe in our Traffic Management team is encouraging young people to consider careers in highways maintenance and engineering.

Joe joined Island Roads in 2017 as a Level 2 Business Administration apprentice.  Today he is employed in he post of Traffic Management Admin.

Joe said: “Island Roads has supported me to develop my career, giving me the opportunity to work in a variety of departments to allow me to experience different aspects of the business.

“I am now working within the Traffic Management team where my role involves helping to produce plans for resurfacing schemes, compiling site visitor logs and organising work sheets and letter drop maps.

“I would recommend people consider a career in highways maintenance as the work is interesting, varied and rewarding.”
