Island Roads will be carrying out highway improvement work on Sandown Road at Lake next month.
Sections of the highway between Cemetery Road and Newport Road will be improved in a project scheduled to start on Monday November 3 and last five days.
The work seeks to strengthen the foundations of the road to address the issue that have caused surface deterioration. As this involves deeper-than-usual excavations a full 24-hour road closure will be required for the duration of the scheme.
While closed as a through route, the work is being phased so residents will still be able to access their properties if it is safe to do so unless work is directly outside. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Diversions for traffic will be signposted locally.
An Island Roads spokesperson said: “Residents and road users will know that this section of road does need to be improved and unfortunately it is not possible to do this without causing some short-term inconvenience.
“We thank the community in advance for their co-operation and understanding and hope any short-term disruption will be offset by the longer term benefits the work will bring.”
