School rallies rounds Island Roads charity event

Pupils at Nine Acres Primary have raised nearly £300 for the Wessex Cancer Trust in support of a forthcoming marathon charity effort by one of the school’s mums

Island Roads Structures Engineer Victoria Keefe, whose son Daniel, ten, is a Nine Acres pupil, will join her Island Roads colleague Alex Tunnicliffe in running not one but two marathons – Paris on 9 April and London on 23 April to raise money for the Wessex Cancer Trust.
Getting into the spirit, the pupil leadership team at Nine Acres agreed to hold a non-uniform day and the sports coach arranged for the whole school to ‘run a mile’ in order to experience some of what the challenge would be like.  The event was held and raised a fantastic £291.80.
Victoria and Alex attended a school assembly recently to talk about their forthcoming marathons and to thank the children and teachers.
“The children had a great time on the day and we are now looking at how we can include running as a regular feature at school,” said head teacher Mrs Elizabeth Dyer.
Victoria said: “Island Roads as a company and my colleagues have been really supportive of what Alex and I are undertaking but it was really, really special to see how Nine Acres children and their families have also helped us too.”
