Urgent cycleway work at Horringford

Island Roads is working to quickly reopen a section of the popular Newport to Sandown cycle track, which has been temporarily closed due to safety concerns.

An inspection this week found the bridge between Horringford and East Lane (Merstone) contained some timber that need urgent replacement. As a result, the route has been temporarily closed to ensure public safety until repairs are completed.

Preparation work has already begun, materials have been ordered and a contractor has been mobilised to continue the project.

Island Roads is aiming to complete the works and reopen the route as quickly as possible – hopefully by 8th August.

Public updates on the progress of the repair job will be given throughout the project.

Island Roads apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents and visitors for their patience and understanding while this urgent work is carried out.

Signage is present onsite to direct pedestrians during the work.
