This eleven-tonne footbridge is a heavily-used pedestrian structure crossing the Island’s rail line at Lake.

The metal bridge was in need of a major upgrade which required the footbridge to be temporarily removed from site given the confined location and access issues over the rail.

The refurbished sections were craned back into position – all delivered in collaboration with the railway authorities and under the provision of the Network Rail Basic Asset Protection Agreement (BAPA). The project was delivered to a tight timeframe in a period during which rail services were suspended for infrastructure upgrades.

It was the first time an Island rail bridge had been lifted out for upgrading off site utilising a mobile road-rail crane.
