Safety work at St George’s Way

A section of St George’s Way, Newport, will be reduced to one southbound lane for four weeks starting early next month to allow the replacement of fence panels.

As the safety fencing is some metres above the carriageway, a platform needs to be erected in one of the southbound lanes for safety reasons for the duration of work between November 3-28.

In total, 85 metres of fencing will be replaced. Island Roads is keen to complete the work ahead of the main winter season.

An Island Roads spokesperson said: “Modern regulations mean we cannot undertake this important work without erecting a scaffold structure both to ensure the safety of our workforce and to prevent debris from falling onto the road below.

“We’d like to thank residents in advance for their understanding during work.”
