Three major road improvement schemes will be undertaken by Island Roads in April.
The work in Heathfield Road, Freshwater, Howgate Road, Bembridge and Parkhurst Road, Newport, was originally scheduled for late last year but postponed because of poor weather as the materials used require dry and mild temperatures.
The work at Heathfield Road, Freshwater will be from the junction of Colwell Road to the High Street section that was completed last November. The work is scheduled to begin on April 20 and last three days.
In Howgate Road, the work will be between the section completed last year and the junction of Egerton Road. This work is currently scheduled to begin on April 23 for three days.
At Parkhurst Road, the section between Clissold Road to south of HMP Isle of Wight entrance will be resurfaced starting April 28 and lasting three night-time shifts. The work could not have been carried out during the recent closure of Horsebridge Hill as doing so would have effectively landlocked residents of the new estate between two worksites.
Heathfield Road and Howgate Road will be closed during work between approximately 7.30am and 5pm and re-opened, if safe to do so, at all other times. Parkhurst Road will be closed for work between 7.30pm and 6am and open at other times.
Roads improved during the first phase of work late last year included Mayfield Road in East Cowes, Quay Lane in Brading, Shore Road in Ventnor, Freshwater High Street and Arctic Road/Bridge Road in Cowes.
All The locations were chosen following the annual road condition survey that identified those sections as among those in most need of attention or, in the case of Parkhurst Road needed improved skid resistance. Around seven kilometres of the network will have been improved in the programme on completion of April’s work.
Please note that the work programme is subject to change for factors including the weather.
