Island Roads will undertake work to repair Hope Hill in Shanklin on Tuesday next week.
Traffic along the road – which currently has a width restriction – has been controlled by temporary lights since a hole opened up in the carriageway there on Wednesday (Nov 21).
Island Roads is hoping to complete the required repair in one day but it will be necessary to close the road in order for crews to
work safely. This closure will prevent vehicular access to the Esplanade. Pedestrian access will be maintained and the Isle of Wight Council will operate the Cliff Lift free of charge during the closure.
The road closure will come into place at 8am on Tuesday and Island Roads hopes to complete the work by 6pm. Work is being carried out next Tuesday in order to give businesses some advance warning and also to avoid the busier weekend period.
Updates will be provided to the local media and on our Twitter feed @Islandroads
