Island Roads works update – 23 April 2026

Island Road appreciates this is a period of intense activity on the network so we’d like to provide an update on our current schemes.

At the same time, we’d like to thank residents, road users and business for their co-operation at this busy time.

We wish to assure the public that we make every effort to coordinate our work to minimise disruption as much as possible, as the following update aims to illustrate.  This remains an ongoing challenge due to the significant volume of applications for highway work. We do endeavour to limit activities during the peak summer season to lessen the impact on the tourism industry during its most active period – consequently, this approach does result in a greater concentration of work during the other months of the year.

Binstead Road.

Work here is progressing well. We are confident the required work will be completed ahead of schedule so the road can be re-opened Thursday (23 April) evening or Friday (24 April) morning.

Wroxall Embankment Stabilisation.

Although the scheme was extended in scope, we are currently on programme to complete the works on Friday (24 April), subject to third‑party utility works. We will update residents and the wider community on our progress on Friday.

Fairlee Road.

This is not an Island Roads scheme though we are co-ordinating other work to take place under the current closure to reduce future disruption in the area.

As part of this, we will be resurfacing a major section of the Racecourse on the approach to the Crematorium Roundabout. About 430 square metres will be improved in all. We plan to do this on Thursday (23 April) and Friday (24 April) this week. As traffic is light because of the Fairlee closure, we can undertake the work while keeping the road open but traffic will be marshalled through the site so there may be some short delays.

The IW Council has also undertaken tree pollarding under this closure.  The Football Club will undertake some access work to the new site; and Island Roads is also doing work to a street column.

We understand from DARES, who are undertaking the infrastructure improvement work outside The Orchards on Fairlee Road, that they are making good progress with their work.

Heathfield Road, Freshwater.

Resurfacing works completed and road reopened. Lining to be completed in the coming days – road will be closed for a short period during one evening.

Parkhurst Road, Newport.

Resurfacing work is due to start on Thursday (23 April) night and be completed on Friday (24 April) night.  The work hours are 7.30pm to 6am. The lining, which should be a short procedure, is programmed for Monday (27 April) evening.

Howgate Road, Bembridge – due to start on Monday (27 April) next week between the hours of 7.30am and 5pm with the road open outside of the daytime closure.

Grange Farm, Military Road

Subject to the delivery of required materials, work should be complete this Friday (24 April).

Cliff Way, Lake.

We will be resurfacing the southern and eastern sections of Cliff Way, Lake, next Thursday and Friday (30 April and 1 May).  The final section (northern cul-de-sac) will be treated at a later date. We will also be closing Brownlow and Ranelagh Roads during work (8am-6pm.) Access will be maintained to all residents where safe to do so. Letters will be delivered shortly to residents.
