The Isle of Wight Council as the Highway Authority, retains responsibility for a range of services, including:
- Highways PFI Contract Management
- Transport Planning and development of LTP (including decisions on adoption of new highway assets)
- Road Safety Education
- Transport Strategy (Client role on LTP Integrated Transport Schemes and Traffic Regulation Orders)
- Traffic Manager’s Statutory Role
- School crossing patrols
- Transport Operation including Passenger Transport
- Enforcement legal action through the Courts
- Public Rights of Way, capital and reactive repairs to footpaths/bridleways (including signs and stiles); along with the trimming back of overhanging vegetation
- Cowes Floating Bridge, bridge renewal along with operation and maintenance;
