The main road to and through Wroxall is to be resurfaced by Island Roads
In order to keep disruption to a minimum, the work on the near-kilometre long stretch of St John’s Road and High Street, Wroxall will be undertaken overnight between the hours of 6.30pm and 6am.
To reduce the impact of the road closures necessary to allow the work to be undertaken as quickly and safely as possible, the project will also be undertaken in four phases: West Street to St Martin’s Road, St Martin’s Road to Coombe Park, Coombe Park to Appuldurcombe Road and St John’s Road to Worsley Drive – 250 metres south of the Donkey Sanctuary.
Work is programmed to begin on June 14 and last for six nights. The road will remain open to pedestrian at all times and will be re-opened to traffic outside of work times. There will be no work over the weekend (18 and 19 June).
Project manager Derek Benfield said: “The nature of this work means that some disruption is inevitable. We would like to thank road users and residents in advance for their cooperation and hope that any short term inconvenience will be worth it given the long-term benefits the work will bring.”
During the road closure, traffic will be diverted via the A3020 Shanklin Road and Victoria Avenue, A3055 High Street (Shanklin), Church Road, Cowleaze Hill, Bonchurch Road and Leeson Road, St Boniface Road, Mitchell Avenue, Ocean View Road, Newport Road and Clarence Road.
