Progress continues as resurfacing work brings reopening closer

Island Roads is hoping to resurface Belgrave Road in Ventnor this week.

Resurfacing of the damaged section will mark a key phase in the ongoing project to repair and re-open the road following a huge rockfall there earlier this year.

The resurfacing – which is subject to favourable weather – will make it necessary to once again close the pedestrian access through Belgrave Road for the duration of work.

It is anticipated the resurfacing will begin on Tuesday and take three days. On completion, pedestrian access will be restored.

Vehicular access will be restored once the new parapets have been completed. The target date for this is December 19.

Project manager Nathaniel Saunders said: “As residents can see, we are making significant progress and we’d like to thank the local community for their support during work.

“The end of the project is now in sight but there is still more important work to be done before we can safely restore full access. Residents can be assured that we are working hard to achieve the target opening date.”
