Island Roads will begin surfacing a section of road along Lake Hill between Lake Green Road and Ranelagh Road on the 3rd June with the works taking between four and five nights to complete.

The works, which will substantially improve and upgrade this section of road, have been scheduled to take place after half term and ahead of the main tourist season and will be completed between the hours of 18:00 and 06:30 each day to minimise travel disruption.

The road will be closed during the works with restricted access for properties and businesses located within the closure and diversion signs will be in place directing traffic via Newport Road, Lake, Apse Heath, Arreton, Downend Road, Morton Common and Avenue Road, Sandown

Island Roads Construction Manager Keith Gourlay said: “We recognise that this is a well-used section of road and we have worked hard to programme our road improvement works to minimise travel disruption for residents, visitors and local businesses by working overnight and by working closely with utility companies to ensure their equipment beneath the road surface has been upgraded in advance of the works.”

As part of a range of measures to keep everyone informed, letters have been issued to residents, schools, businesses and town and parish councils in the area explaining the road closures and providing details regarding access arrangements for those living in the closed section of the road.  Posters have also been placed in key local outlets eg doctors surgeries and leisure centres to alert local residents and transport and other service providers have been notified of the planned works.
