Island Roads is shortly to undertake further work to improve the main road serving Godshill and Rookley.

The work will mean that the whole 6.5 kilometre stretch between Highwood Lane and Whiteley Bank will have been resurfaced under the Highways PFI. Like all the previous work along this busy stretch, the forthcoming work will be undertaken overnight – between the hours of 7.30pm and 6am in order to minimise disruption.

The two sections to be treated are from The Knook to Sandford Cattery and Fairacres to Sandford Farm. Work is scheduled to begin early in September and last five nights. There will be no working over the weekend which will further reduce inconvenience. There will be a full road closure in operation during work times but pedestrian access will be maintained.

Project manager Derek Benfield said: “The work on these two sites will mean the entire stretch of the main road serving Rookley, Godshill and Sandford will have been improved by Island Roads.

“A feature of this work has been the tremendous co-operation we have received from businesses and residents. As always, we do try to minimise inconvenience as far as possible but I would like to thank residents and businesses for their support in what has been an intensive period of activity.”
