One of the main routes into Ryde is to be upgraded shortly under the Highways PFI.
Island Roads is to resurface a stretch of Binstead Road from Ringwood Road roundabout and the whole of Queens Road to Fiveways Junction in work to be undertaken at night in order to minimise disruption to road users.
The work is programmed to start in the week after May Bank Holiday and be undertaken between the hours of 7.30pm and 6am during which time the road will be closed. The road will be reopened outside of these hours and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Island Roads may also undertake weekend work if necessary to remain on schedule. The scheme is expected to take twelve nights to complete (including weekends) during which a diversion will be in place.
“This is a busy route but I am sure road users and residents will agree that it is need of an upgrade,” said project manager Derek Benfield.
“It is inevitable that a scheme of this nature will involve some disruption but we hope to reduce this by undertaking the work at night and by weekend working which will enable us to complete the resurfacing in the shortest time.
“We would like to thank road users and residents in advance for their co-operation.”
Residents have been written to with details of the scheme and further notice will be will be placed on information boards in the area before work commences.
