Structures Team

Island Roads has a dedicated team responsible for maintaining – and, where necessary, upgrading – the various structures that support the highway network on the Isle of Wight.

This responsibility includes 199 bridges, culverts, tunnels, subways and embankments as well as 568 retaining walls.

Here is a short film about our work.

Work and projects

The team carries out a full range of services to ensure the Island’s structures are maintained to the highest standards. These services range from inspections, structural reviews and assessments through to option appraisals, design development and construction management.

Since Island Roads was formed in 2013, the team has been responsible for numerous high-profile projects, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to complex challenges.

School STEM talks and work experience

Members of the Structures Team are happy to visit school STEM clubs to give talks about their work and provide a greater insight into careers in engineering and the different entry routes.

There are also limited opportunities for work experience placements within the team.
