Forest Road at Newport to be improved

A section of Newport’s busy Forest Road is due to be resurfaced shortly by Island Roads.

Work on the stretch from Argyle Road to St Mary’s Roundabout will be undertaken overnight in order to reduce disruption to road users. To further reduce inconvenience, the work will be done in two distinct phases: Argyle Road to Hampshire Crescent and Hampshire Crescent to St Mary’s Roundabout.

The work is scheduled to last seven nights starting from June 20. The hours of work will be between 7.30pm and 6am and there will be no work at weekends.

Pedestrian access will be retained at all times and the road will be re-opened outside of work times. Residents and businesses within the work area have been written to explain more about the scheme and traffic arrangements.

“This is clearly a very busy stretch of road but we hope that by working overnight and by phasing the work we will keep disruption to a minimum,” said project manager Derek Benfield. “We would like to thank residents in advance for their patience while the road closure is in place.”
