Spencer Jarman tries out the new hopscotch at Brighstone Primary School

Pupils at Brighstone Primary School are enjoying brand new playground games thanks to Island Roads and their line marking partners who gave up their time as part of the company’s community volunteering scheme.

The team created a brand new hundred square grid which will be used for a range of maths games and activities, a series of circles for creative play and a more traditional hopscotch. A new netball court was also created as part of their work.

The work was timed to coincide with road improvement schemes in the area.

Teresa Fox, headteacher at Brighstone Primary School, said: “”It has been lovely to watch the children being so creative, inventing and playing their own games and activities using the grids and circles – and the netball court will definitely help to enhance our sport provision. We really appreciate the time that Island Roads have taken to help our school as part of their volunteering scheme.”

Spencer Jarman, line marking supervisor at Island Roads, said: “I really enjoyed working with the school which created a range of playground designs using ideas from pupils and parents.

“The thermoplastic lines we applied are very hardwearing, so will provide the school with sporting and creative playground activities for years to come.”

Island Roads encourages its staff to take up to two days paid leave each year to work with charities and local good causes as part of its commitment to working closely with the community.
