Work is to begin shortly to resurface one of the main roads in and out of Cowes.
Newport Road will be improved by Island Roads as part of the Highways PFI.
The work on the stretch between Three Gates Roundabout and the Horseshoe junction will be undertaken at night in order to reduce inconvenience. The roundabout itself will also be upgraded during the work.
To further reduce disruption, work on this stretch will be phased to ensure an access to Siemens and the industrial estate will be available at all times during work albeit via a diverted route.
Work is scheduled to begin towards the end of July and last five nights.
“A major requirement of the PFI is to take account of disruption roadworks caused to the network so, given the busy nature of this road, we will be undertaking the improvement work overnight,” said Island Roads project manager Derek Benfield.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times but, to ensure the scheme is undertaken as safely and as swiftly as possible, the road will closed during work hours of 7.30pm and 6am. It is currently not envisaged that work will be required over the weekend.
