One-way restriction in place at Marshcombe Shute, Brading

A one-way restriction is currently in operation in Marshcombe Shute in an Eastbound direction (towards Bembridge).

The one-way restriction, which is in place from a point 45 metres to the East of Yarbridge Crossroads to Yaverland Road junction, was put in place at Marshcombe Shute after a detailed survey found the existing temporary barriers needed additional reinforcement to provide a better protection for highway users and reduce the risk of a vehicle going off the road and onto the railway line. To ensure we maintain public safety the new barriers needed to be pulled in from the edge thus resulting in single way traffic being installed.

Since the temporary measures were put in place, Island Roads and the Isle of Wight Council have been working towards securing a permanent safety solution that will allow the reinstatement of two-way traffic. As the land on the approach to the bridge is owned by third parties, we are also seeking their consent before works begin.

A diversion route is in place for local traffic; for all traffic travelling in a Westbound direction towards Yarbridge Crossroads Brading the diversion will be; B3395 Yaverland Road and Culver Parade, Fort Street,  Avenue Road A3055 Morton Road and Morton Common.

The 6ft 6in width restriction in Yaverland Road, Yaverland will be temporarily suspended whilst the one-way restriction is in operation.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but hope that residents will appreciate that the safety of road users is of paramount importance and we will press ahead with these works as soon as we are able to.
