Sign cleaning

Island Roads is responsible for cleaning and maintaining road signs that belong to the Isle of Wight Council.

How often are signs cleaned?

There is an annual rolling programme to clean all traffic signs.

What maintenance to you carry out?

Island Roads’ District Stewards check traffic signs during their routine safety and service inspections of the highway network. Any signs showing evidence of detritus or deterioration that would affect the performance of the sign, are either replaced or cleaned as necessary. We also remove any vegetation that may be obscuring a sign and inspect the posts on which the signs hang.

Who do I contact if a sign needs cleaning/maintaining?

To report a sign which requires cleaning or maintaining, please contact the Island Roads’ helpdesk on 01983 822440 or report via our online form.
