Island Roads engaged with local young people at the ‘Your Future’ Careers and Jobs Fair at the Isle of Wight College.

The Careers Event, in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, provided an opportunity to work in partnership and collaboration to discuss jobs and careers with young people.

Explaining the routes into the industry and promoting Island Roads were James Coleman (Apprentice), Chris Owen Hughes (Graduate Engineer), Lindsay Borthwick (Graduate Engineer) and Callum Gillett (Under Graduate Engineer).

Lindsay Borthwick said “I think the jobs fair was a great place to promote the company, industry and the entry options we have to offer – both apprenticeship and graduate schemes.  The majority of students and parents were interested to learn about the different aspects of work that Island Roads carry out.”

James Coleman, who recently completed his apprenticeship with Island Roads, said “taking an apprenticeship has been a brilliant opportunity for me.  I am really seeing the benefits, with a permanent job and opportunities. Attending the jobs and careers fair gave me the chance to promote this route to others.”

Island Road Apprenticeships provide employment opportunities for young people on the Island and the Graduate Programme provides further opportunities for young people who want to develop their skills and capabilities.
