Community groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations on the Island are being reminded of the deadline for grant applications to the Isle of Wight Foundation on 1 May 2019.

The charitable foundation, which is jointly funded by Ringway Island Roads, Meridiam, VINCI Concessions and Island Roads Services, the companies which make up the partnership behind Island Roads, provides grant funding each year of between £3,000 – £16,000 to local projects working to tackle social exclusion.

Since it started in 2014, over 42 organisations have benefitted from total funds of £400,000 to support Island projects.  Amongst them, to name but a few, projects like the GROW project, The Way Forward and Storeroom2010 which have helped disadvantaged young people gain skills or get back into employment. Projects like Niton Community Projects and Aspire that have helped local communities come together.  Or projects like Betty’s Bus and the Creative (Digital) Café run by Independent Arts that have helped reduced social isolation among older people.

The support has also not just been a financial one, with Island Roads employees acting in a voluntary capacity as project sponsors donating their skills and time to the successful projects.

Todd Miller, General Manager of the Waterside Community Trust said: “The funding we have received to purchase a new poolside hoist has made a huge difference to our ability to provide significantly improved access to the pool for our disabled swimmers.  I would encourage any groups or charities who think they could be eligible to not miss out and to get their applications in before the deadline.”

Applications for this year’s round of funding opened in February this year and are due to close on May 1, with successful applicants due to be announced later this year.
