Around six kilometres of the Downs Road is shortly to be resurfaced by Island Roads.
In order to minimise disruption, the work will be undertaken at night.
The work will also be split into two phases. Brading Down Road, from Ashey Road to Bulleys Hill, will be undertaken over seven nights from July 25. After a week break, Mersley Down Road, from Ashey Road to Newport Shute junction will be undertaken over five nights from August 10. Work will be undertaken between the hours of 6.30pm and 6.00am during which time a road closure will be in place. There will be no weekend working which will also help reduce inconvenience to road users.
Project manager Derek Benfield, said: “People who use this section of road will be aware that it is in need of improvement. It is a well-used stretch of the network and we hope that by undertaking the work at night we will keep disruption to a minimum.
“We thank road users in advance for their patience and hope that any short-term inconvenience will be offset by the benefits of having this section of the strategic road network brought up to standard.”
