Footway maintenance

Footways are constructed and provided for pedestrian use. Island Roads has a responsibility to keep the roads and footways safe to use.

How do I report a footway defect or dangerous paving?

To report a maintenance issue with any of the public footways (pavements) across the Island, please call the Island Roads help desk on 01983 822440 or report it via our online form.

What are Island Roads doing to make the footways safer?

Over the next seven years we will be repairing and improving the 756 kms of footways across the Island to make walking safer and more enjoyable. The new footway surfaces will be smoother, safer and longer lasting.

We’ll start by addressing the worst footways on the Island, so not all of the footways in your area will be completed at the same time. Footways in generally good condition may only get basic attention to bring them up to standard during the first few years.
